The University of Economics in Bratislava (UEB), founded in 1940 as the Slovak Higher School of Commerce, stands as a cornerstone for higher education and research in the Slovak Republic. Offering programs ranging from Bachelor’s to Doctoral degrees in economics and business, it caters to both full-time and part-time students. Proudly affiliated with global organizations such as the EUA European University Association, the EAIE European Association for International Education, and AACSB accredited universities, UEB consistently updates its curriculum to reflect the evolving needs of the market. A prime example is the Faculty of Business Economics (FoBE) based in Košice, which emphasizes the marriage of theory and practice to groom professionals for a dynamic economic landscape. Responding to its ongoing national accreditation, FoBE has introduced contemporary courses such as Introduction to Business Analytics and Data Economy and Big Data, preparing students for the demands of the modern labor market.
At the heart of FoBE lies its dedicated project team, which integrates science and research to deliver groundbreaking solutions. The team has a commendable track record, with achievements including the EURINV project that aligns EDI providers with the European Standard for electronic invoicing. Moreover, they’ve contributed to the E-COOP project, emphasizing the potential of “E-coops” as digital public spaces. Their involvement in the PERSIST project, under the ERASMUS+ banner, further highlights their commitment to adaptability and forward-thinking, fostering collaboration among international universities to bridge skill gaps in Purchasing and Supply Management for the Industry 4.0 era.
The FoBE project team, by virtue of its expertise, has been roped into the MachineLearnAthon project. Representing UEB, the team not only contributes technical know-how but also aids in the dissemination of project results across Central and Eastern Europe. Esteemed members such as Dr. h. c. prof. RNDr. Michal Tkáč, CSc. and Assoc. Prof. Ing. Michal Tkáč, PhD. will champion UEB’s involvement. Their profound understanding of big data processing, machine learning applications in business scenarios, and rigorous mathematical and statistical methodologies ensure that UEB’s contribution to the MachineLearnAthon is both substantial and transformative.
