The Machine LearnAthon Consortium takes the protection of personal data very seriously. We process personal data collected when you visit our websites in compliance with the applicable data protection regulations. The North Rhine-Westphalia Data Protection Act (DSG NRW) and the Telemedia Act apply in particular.

Below we will inform you about the type, scope and purposes of collecting and using personal data. You can access this information at any time on our website.

We will neither publish your data nor pass it on to third parties without authorization.

1. Data collection and processing when accessed from the Internet

When you visit our websites, our web servers temporarily save every access in a log file. The following data is collected and stored until automatically deleted after 3 months:

  • The anonymously shortened IP address of the requesting computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the retrieved file
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Message as to whether the retrieval was successful
  • Recognition data of the browser and operating system used
  • Website from which access is made
  • Name of your Internet access provider

This data is processed for the purpose of enabling the use of the website (establishing a connection), system security, the technical administration of the network infrastructure and optimizing the Internet offering. To avert danger or in the event of violations of the usage guidelines of hosting service provider, in justified cases, the IP addresses can be collected and evaluated in their entirety for a limited period of time.

Personal user profiles are not created. Instead, customized anonymized logins can be granted to group entities such as consortium members, partner companies, and students. These logins serve solely as a simple content filter. No additional information is associated with these logins with the exception of the username and user permissions.

The access of protected areas is partially logged in order to be able the detection of misuse attempts and password attacks. No data is stored that can be used to create personal profiles about user behavior.

Beyond the cases mentioned above, personal data will not be processed unless you expressly consent to further processing.

2. Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

Currently, it is not necessary for you to provide personal data to use our website.

In the event, that extensions of the website services might, in the future, require personal data, any such use will only be for the stated purposes and to the extent necessary to achieve these purposes. Transfers of personal data to state authorities will only take place within the framework of mandatory national legal regulations.

3. Consent to further use

The use of certain offers on our website such as inquiries, newsletters or forums requires prior registration and further processing of personal data, for example long-term storage of user IDs. Such data will only be used if you have provided it to us and consented to its use in advance.

Entries in blogs, guest books, forums, leaving comments or similar services are generally not subject to any control over the content. Nevertheless, we reserve the right to delete entries and exclude users from further use at our own discretion, especially if entries constitute criminal offenses or are incompatible with the goals of TU Dortmund University or any other partner University. If you leave entries on the websites’ pages, you guarantee that they may be made for an unlimited period of time and are free of third-party rights.

4. Cookies

Cookies set by TU Dortmund University serve to make our website more user-friendly, effective and secure. Cookies are small text files that your browser saves and which are stored on your computer. Cookies do not cause any damage to your computer and do not contain viruses. If, in exceptional cases, we also want to store personal data in a cookie, such as a user ID, you will be specifically informed of this.

When you access pages that require registration, a so-called “session cookie” is set up on your computer, which is deleted again at the end of the browser session. This cookie does not make it possible to establish a connection to the person behind the connection or create a user profile.

You can largely view our websites without cookies, but most browsers automatically accept cookies. You can prevent cookies from being stored by setting this in your browser settings. If you do not accept cookies, this may lead to functional restrictions of the services our website can provide.

5. Web Analytics

Our hosting provider uses services on some websites that collect and store data for web analysis, usage evaluation and optimization purposes. From this data, user profiles are created under a pseudonym. Cookies (see above) can be used for this purpose.

Cookies enable recognition of the Internet browser. The data collected using such technologies will not be used by us to personally identify the visitor to this website or combined with personal data about the bearer of the pseudonym without the express consent of the person concerned.

Our webpages may contain links to websites of other providers. We would like underline that we can only enforce this data protection declaration on the current website. We have no influence and do not control whether other providers comply with applicable data protection regulations.
